And when even food critic John Gilchrist has a tough time deciding what to order, you’re up to something good.I made the trip to Bonavista this week and picked up 2 pies. A take and bake apple pie for the freezer, and a prairie berry pie for now.
Now you can fill a pie with any assortment of things, it’s not all that hard. If you truly want to be the place that Agent Cooper would love, you need to have the crust done up right. Pies Plus pies are domed, flaky, soft, chewy, and delicious. Just sweet and perfect.
And even the fruit holds up to the rigours of baking. Instead of a soupy mess, I loved seeing whole Saskatoon berries inside my pie tangled with ribbons of rhubarb and strawberry.
It was absolutely wonderful. 2 pies down, 78 more varieties to try.
