You need to make reservations if you want to go camping in Alberta Parks. For 2016, the reservations start on February 8. Here’s what you need to do:
Rochon Sands Provincial Park near Stettler, on the shores of Buffalo Lake is a simple place to escape. Don’t expect luxury camping at Rochon Sands (unlike spots nearby) and that’s a good thing.

Aspen Beach Provincial Park has one of the best beaches near Calgary. It is a huge campground next to the long beach with a sloping shoreline. The beach is perfect, but the campground is different. The weekend we went it was filled with partiers. That’s fine, if you like to do that, but when I go camping with the kids I look for something more low key.
